OK, almost a year after beginning this project, here are some photos of the finished Eduard´s Mig-21. Apart from the Eduard Brassin for the landing gear and wheel wells I also used the Aires detail set for the cockpit and the electronics boxes behind the cockpit. For the main control panel I used Eduard´s painted photoetched. The ejection seat is CMK´s and the pitot tube is from Master Model. Oh, and some scratch-work, you know...
I used Alclad "white aluminium" and Tamiya "Smoke" to paint and shade the different panels; and AMMO of Mig Jimenez products to make the weathering.
For the small diorama I used a Soviet Hex Airfield from Uschi Van Der Rosten, an Ural fuel tanker from Balaton Models, a soviet weapons loading cart by Aerobonus, photoetched wheel chocks from Brengun and a photoetched ladder from Eduard.
The heavy weathered fuselage gives to the aircraft the operational look I was looking for when I began this mass production war machine.

DeleteThe chipping in the red numbers and stars are made with acrylic silver paint and a pointy brush, that simple. The stains and weathering are made with AMMO products.

I love all your models, they are quite spectacular. I have been following this build from the beginning, I would check everyday to see if you had made any updates. I love the scratch built details and your technique is something I endeavour to copy. But I feel the weathering on the spine is a bit overdone. It is almost the same shade of metal as the exhaust.

Any chance of you writing a how to article on weathering? I would like to copy your technique as I have no clue how to go about weathering and what weathering materials to use.
DeleteI´m working on it. I use enamel stuff for the weathering (oil paints and other specific weathering products), basically the same stuff used to weather the tanks.
